Margo, I love this... what an amazing visual resource. I suddenly see my self, 5 years old and drawing/writing letters of all sorts of shapes and colors.

I have some experiments looking at the ways of visualizing oral language, and in deed these examples show just how our written language struggles to express our intended message, as Cora's drawing shows with her visual narratives. But growing with a designer and educator as parents as you are, I'm sure both your children will enjoy a visually articulate and typographically acute life...

Thanks for your feedback, Eric; it's surprisingly difficult to make room for making in a conference setting, such is the burden of tradition. Hope you can join us next year. I was at LCC in June...sorry I missed you! Peter

Hi DI-

I'm sorry for yet another missed opportunity to make it to Maine for the week. Your right on track through, and this interview gives a good take on the essence of design. An interesting note mentioned about Rick Poyner, he also wrote an article about New Views 2, a sort of mega-conference held at the London College of Communication which with Richard Buchanan leading the pack, and was discouraged by the failed structure. Although I attended one day, I also was confused, and though I should share DI's concept to them, as even when the large groups split, they were still talking and not making. (http://www.eyemagazine.com/opinion.php?id=160&oid=453)

Well I wish I could be there, enjoying the island solitude, and collaborating with everyone on what is an intriguing topic. I look forward to hearing about the week's experience.

Admiration from London,
Eric

ps. I think a couple of weeks ago Peter H. was at LCC in London, I though I saw him walking around and when I went to say hi he had vanished into the wind... well if he was there please tell him I apologize for not catching him!

Satoru: This is a lovely record of your experiences at DI. I can hear you telling the story, a sort of voice over to a week-long movie. You conjure the many images and moments I have carried with me since last summer. And btw, my one principle isn't exactly "everything depends on everything", but I love your translation!

How wise to have saved these samples - and I do like your interpretations. What fundamental human need is satisfied by this process? Perhaps it's partly a desire to create something that stands still amidst the all the flux, but I don't know.
